1988 Suzuki Samurai, 1.6 16 valve engine, Toyota axles, 33″ Cooper STT tires, etc
I’ve owned this Samurai for about 14 years and had a ton of fun in it but it’s time someone else enjoys it, I’ve put a lot of attention and money to make this Samurai do well offroad and also on road.
It’s no highway cruiser but 65mph is no problem.
Body is fair, there are a few souvenirs from the trails over the years, worst is the left rear quarter panel but it’s basically in decent shape otherwise.
Canvas top has a few scars that I’ve patched.
I’ve got a new in box Rampage 3 piece top I’ll throw in if the sell price is decent.
This Samurai is very capable, it’s done the Rubicon twice, Holy Cross, Carnage canyon (both) Hal Jobs in South Dakota
Montrose, Moab etc.
Will wheel with bigger rigs on 40’s because it’s so nimble.
If you like snow wheeling this machine is amazing.
The 1.6V engine came out of a 96 Sidekick.
Just fast passed its annual emissions test at envirotest last week, so no worries there.
The specifics:
Front axle: 85 Toyota 8″ mini truck with lockrite locker, 30 spline chromoly shafts (inner and outer) new 4.55 gears and completely rebuilt less than 5k miles ago (every seal, bearing, gear, brakes, shaft new), high steering kit, panhard bar, YJ SPOA Rear axle Toyota 8″ with Trail Gear rock assault housing. 100% new bearings, shafts, gears, brakes less than 5k ago.
The rock assault housing lines up the driveshaft with the pinion and the samurai offset transfer case to allow vibration free highway speed.
I ordered the housing with the bigger inspection port upgrade.
Drive shaft: Custom Trail Tough CV for vib free operation,YJ SPOA
Transfer Case: 6.5:1 gears installed, Evil twin shifters upgraded (allows 2 wheel low and true neutral for flat towing)
Engine: 1.6 16valve 96 sidekick with Doug Thorley header. Engine makes 95hp vs stock 60 and really helps with the bigger tires, aluminum radiator, 2″ exhaust.
Power steering: PSC pump and sidekick box, cooler and reservoir
Onboard air: Puma 12 volt 3.5 cfm, fills two tires at once.
Seats: Dodge Van seats, both sides heated. Very comfy!
Roll Cage: Davesport that replaces the stock roll bar
Tires: Cooper STT 33″
Front bumper: Shrockworks with tow bar mounts and shackle mounts
Rear bumper: Shrockworks with tire rack
Sliders Shrockworks
Winch Warn M8000s synthetic rope
Bushwacker 6″ flares
Uniden cb
I just looked up the new price for just the upgrades listed above and got over $13,000 (yikes) Good luck building one this capable anywhere close to what I’m asking.
